To Kiss or not to Kiss – The Bollywood Kiss

While some reports gleefully report that there will in fact be a kissing scene between the lead pair, SRK himself has stoutly denied the reports.

According to the King Khan, there are two things he will not do in movies – he will not kiss and he will not ride a horse. He was quoted as saying that he feels weird kissing on screen and also he doesn’t know how to do it.

The point here is not whether or not X will kiss Y for Z number of seconds or minutes; but the lascivious amount of attention that film and the alleged kissing scene receives for this. This is a telling critique on movie audiences in the country!

So what is it with Bollywood and kissing? Why does on screen smooch raise a furore and so many eyebrows along with it? That poor chap Emran Hashmi, (aka the serial kisser) is known more for his labial abilities than his histrionic ones. The media routinely counts the number of smacks and smooches that a film has and collectively gasps that some old Mallika Sherawat film had 13 liplocks, and calls it a record! Never mind what the film was about!

The slavering media attention was focused last year on Kurbaan, the film starring Bollywood’s hottest couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, for, you guessed it, a steamy kiss! It would seem that a record has been created for the longest kiss on camera; the steamy osculation which was supposed to be the longest between any two stars in the history of Bollywood. And this made headlines!

Bollywood and the Celebration of Motherhood

t was Mother’s Day this last Sunday and Bollywood stars spoke in one voice in honouring and revering their mothers on the day. Stars such as Aamir Khan, Bipasha Basu, Millika Sherawat, Ritiesh Deshmukh, and a host of others wished mothers everywhere and particularly their own mothers on the day using Twitter to communicate their love to mothers.
The mother connection has been a long and time honoured one in Bollywood – “Maa ka Ashirwaad” has been hugely important in Hindi films – the first salary is always deposited at the mother’s feet, the deepest sacrifices are always made to pay the debt of the many that the mother would inevitably have made to rear her child overcoming every adversity. Avenging the killing or insulting of a mother is often the story base of a Hindi film.

Ragini MMS hits theaters this Weekend

The much awaited Ragini MMS, is the latest Bollywood release, a movie of the thriller-horror genre and also of the Ekta Kapoor genre it must be said. Producer Ekta Kapoor seems to have mastered the art of making bold new cinema on shoestring budgets, that shock and entertain in equal measure taking lesser known actors and making the world sit up and take notice.

After the path breaking Love Sex aur Dhokha and critically acclaimed Shor in the City, Ekta and Shobha Kapoor give us Ragini MMS, a film shot in 25 days on a budget of just 1.3 crores. Directed by Pawan Kriplani, the film’s story and screenplay are by Pawan Kripalani and Vaspar Dandiwala. The film stars Raj Kumar Yadav as Uday and Kainaz Motivala as Ragini and is based on certain true events and also, it is alleged, the cult Hollywood film Paranormal Activity (the grainy camera work is one indication).
This ‘Sensuous Paranormal’ film bears the tagline – “They don’t know it yet. It’s a Threesome” and it is significant that the film releases today; on Friday the 13th. The story is about a young couple, who go away for a dirty weekend in the woods at a deserted bungalow on the outskirts of Mumbai. The young man wants to make a sex tape of the intimacy that they will indulge in and then sell it off but finds that the whole place is rigged with cameras. Soon the intrusive cameras become the least of the problems of the young couple when horror element makes itself evident. As the young couple gets intimate, the spooky element decides to join in the fun by pulling hair, wounding and flinging the two around.

Bipasha Basu Item Number Songs – She does not mind to do those

Bipasha Basu has always refrained from doing special dance numbers for films where she was not a part of the main cast, is now willing to perform an item number for a film where she is not the leading lady.

As per Latest Bipasha Basu Interviews, she said that, “Yes, maybe I need to give special songs and dance numbers a rethink.”

“My last few films have all been realistic, due to which I haven’t been a part of any quintessential song and dance numbers. I guess I may take an exception now and give my nod to a song if it is really exclusive to a film, and is cool and catchy,” she says.

She didn't star in the item song in Dum Maaro Dum, despite her playing the female lead in the film.

As per Latest Bollywood Interviews, she said that, "Deepika is a good dancer so she was a great choice for the song. Also, the remixed Dum Maaro Dum has a rap feel to it. It takes time to grow on you and I am not a rap fan so I don't think I missed much."

"Worldwide when someone thinks of Goa, he gets an impression of a heavenly place which is chilled out, relaxed and colorful with hippies, flowery dresses, beautiful bodies, beaches and sun. Of course that's true and we have shown all of that in our film as well. But no, this isn't all about Goa; there is more to that as well, something that we have brought on screen in Dum Maaro Dum.”
